Commission · Gift piece

Ivy Cottage

This commission arrived with one strong photograph and no need to overcomplicate it.

My job was to stay faithful to the scene and get the detail right.

Framed gift

Ivy Cottage, finished drawing

Finished drawing before framing.

Reference

One photo was enough.

The client sent a single photograph with good light, a clear view of the cottage, and the right balance between house and garden.

When the reference is that strong, there is no need to force a new composition.

Process

Structure first, then the ivy.

The building goes in first. Walls, windows, roof line, and the path all have to feel settled before the surface detail can do its work.

Then the ivy takes over. That was the slow part, as well as the satisfying part.

Finish

Framed and hand delivered.

The client provided a high quality frame, so I fitted the drawing before delivery.
